Lithuania gets new coach

Germany’s Bernd Haake has been signed by the Lithuanian Ice Hockey Federation as the new coach for the national ice hockey team and they also expect to include Dainius Zubrus, who is locked out of the National Hockey League at this point of time.

Lithuania’s under – 20 and under – 18 national coach Andrius Jadkauskas will be his assistant and Italy’s Daniel Goller will be the goal – keeper coach of the team. Germany’s Toni Waldmann will fulfil the scouting duties.

Sixty six year old Haake worked as an assistant coach for the last 6 year with German team Iserlohn Roosters. Before that, he coached in Italy for many years. In the year 2000, he led Bolzano Foxes to one of the championships; and he also coached teams like Sterzing and Fassa. From 1992 to 1997, he was Kölner Haie’s assistant coach.

For 14 years, Bernd worked as the organizer and coach of the German Ice Hockey Associaiton’s international hockey school in Füssen. He also established a goalkeeping school. When Spain competed in a IIHF World Championship for the very first time, he coached their national team with his compatriot Toni Waldmann.

As the coach of the national team coach, Bernd’s first match will be the Olympic Pre-Qualification Group matches in Hungary from 9th to 11th November when Lithuania will play three games against Croatia, Netherlands and Hungary. The national team will also take part in 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship and compete against teams like Romania and Poland among others.
